SDAIA President Highlights Saudi Leadership in Responsible AI Governance During Geneva Meetings

Saudi Arabia is actively championing responsible artificial intelligence governance on the global stage, emphasizing its commitment to the ethical and safe deployment of AI technologies. Dr. Abdullah bin Sharaf Alghamdi, President of the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA), highlighted the Kingdom's dedication during meetings in Geneva on the sidelines of the Global Dialogue on AI Governance.

Speaking with leaders from the International Labour Organization, the World Bank, and Germany's digital ministry, Dr. Alghamdi underscored Saudi Arabia's vision, guided by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The discussions focused on strengthening international cooperation in data and AI, enhancing governance frameworks for emerging technologies, and promoting their ethical adoption in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The meetings reviewed ways to strengthen international cooperation in data and AI, boost governance frameworks for emerging technologies, and promote their ethical and responsible adoption in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals while helping address future risks affecting societies and labor markets.

The Kingdom's initiatives include establishing the International Center for AI Research and Ethics (ICAIRE) in Riyadh, under UNESCO's auspices. SDAIA is also promoting AI governance through risk management tools, maturity assessments, and accountability mechanisms designed to foster trust and spur innovation. To further this agenda, Saudi Arabia will host the fourth Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence in Riyadh from September 14 to 17, an event organized in cooperation with UNESCO and ICAIRE.
