Search continues for German tourist missing in Tayrona Park for five days

An extensive search operation is underway in Colombia's Tayrona National Natural Park for a 23-year-old German tourist who disappeared five days ago. Markus Hideaki Kistner was swept away by strong ocean currents while enjoying a day at the beach with his family.

The emergency began around 4:30 p.m. when Kistner entered the sea in the sector between Arrecifes, Las Piscinas, and La Arenilla. Within seconds, he was overcome by powerful waves and disappeared from sight. Since then, rescue teams have been tirelessly searching the park's beaches and rocky areas.

The operation is led by the Colombian Civil Defense, with support from the National Navy's Coast Guard Station, Tayrona Park lifeguards, and National Natural Parks authorities. The Metropolitan Police are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the disappearance. Rescue teams are concentrating their efforts on areas that are difficult to access, where marine currents and rock formations make search maneuvers particularly complex.

Experts in aquatic rescue explain that the constantly shifting currents can alter the search area, requiring teams to continuously expand their radius. The rough seas, strong currents, and rocky terrain are significant obstacles, reducing visibility and making the tracking process extremely challenging. Despite the ongoing efforts, positive results have yet to be achieved due to these difficult conditions.
