Search Continues in Thermaic Gulf for Missing Fisherman

Search efforts are ongoing in Greece's Thermaic Gulf for a 69-year-old man who has been missing since his fishing boat capsized. The Hellenic Coast Guard reported that extensive search and rescue operations, involving both air and sea assets, are underway. So far, the operations have yielded no results.

The man had gone fishing with his 67-year-old wife when their private vessel overturned. His wife managed to reach the shore with the help of a civilian and was transported by ambulance to the AHEPA University General Hospital in Thessaloniki for medical care. The overturned boat was later found near the coast, along with personal identification documents belonging to the missing man.

The search is coordinated by the Single Coordination Center for Research and Rescue of the Hellenic Coast Guard. Five Coast Guard patrol boats, a vessel from the National Rescue Team, and a private diver are participating in the operation. Additionally, an Air Force helicopter, a Coast Guard helicopter, and a Coast Guard airplane have been deployed to the area. Ground patrols by Coast Guard vehicles are also active.

Despite the comprehensive deployment of resources, the missing fisherman has not yet been located. Preliminary investigations are being conducted by the A' Port Department of Nea Michaniona of the Thessaloniki Central Port Authority. The search continues with negative results to date.
