Search Launched for Two Children Missing in Turkish River

A search operation has been launched for two children who disappeared in the Büyük Menderes River in Aydın, Turkey. The incident occurred around 6:00 PM in the Acarlar neighborhood.

Four friends were picnicking near the river, and three of them decided to enter the water to cool off. One child managed to reach the shore on their own, but Şahin Ö., aged 11, and Eda K., aged 15, were swept away by the current and disappeared.

Their friends, who had stayed out of the water, alerted the 112 Emergency Call Center. In response, rescue teams from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), National Medical Rescue Team (UMKE), Gendarmerie Search and Rescue (JAK), firefighters, and health personnel were dispatched to the scene.

Search and rescue efforts are ongoing in the river. The families of the missing children are also assisting in the search with their own means. To aid the operation, the water flow to the river, supplied by a State Hydraulic Works irrigation union, has been temporarily stopped.
