Sebei Industrial Hub Gets Modern Value Addition Facility to Boost Agro-Processing

President Yoweri Museveni's administration has inaugurated a modern value addition facility at the Sebei Zonal Industrial Hub in Kween District, Uganda. This initiative, part of the Presidential Industrial Hubs program, aims to significantly enhance agro-processing, elevate product quality, and increase household incomes in the Sebei sub-region.

The facility focuses on adding value to the region's abundant cereal crops, processing them locally instead of exporting raw produce. Eng. Raymond Kamugisha, Director of Presidential Projects and Industrial Hubs, stated that the center is equipped with machinery capable of processing up to 500 metric tonnes of produce daily, with a 10-tonne production capacity. This investment is expected to substantially reduce post-harvest losses and boost the international market competitiveness of Ugandan grains.

This region is known for producing a variety of cereals. With this facility in place, we shall now focus on adding value to those grains from here, which will enhance both local consumption and export potential.

Kamugisha emphasized the facility's role in addressing historical challenges like aflatoxin contamination in grains through farmer training in proper post-harvest handling. The hub also features an animal feeds processing section, designed to curb Uganda's dependence on imported animal feeds. This move is anticipated to lower costs for local farmers and bolster national food security, enabling industrial hubs to supply food during crises.
