Second suspect arrested for stabbing in Ghent

Authorities have apprehended a second suspect in connection with a stabbing that occurred on July 20 at Portus Ganda in Ghent. The federal police confirmed the arrest, and the individual is scheduled to appear before an investigating judge in Ghent on Wednesday.

The judge will determine whether the suspect will remain in custody. The stabbing incident, which took place around 9:45 a.m. on July 20 near the Rodetorenkaai, involved two men attacking two other individuals with a knife. One of the victims sustained serious injuries but is reportedly no longer in life-threatening danger.

Earlier, a first suspect was identified and arrested following the dissemination of a wanted notice. This second suspect was apprehended after investigators managed to identify him, despite his face being obscured by a dark cap and a scarf or neck warmer during the incident. He was wearing dark trousers and a camouflage-print jacket.

In addition to the stabbing investigation, police are exploring a potential connection to a separate altercation involving youths on July 19 near the intersection of Vrijdagmarkt and Baudelostraat in Ghent. Bystanders filmed that fight, and its details are being examined for any links to the Portus Ganda incident.
