Sint-Jans-Molenbeek boosts police presence after shootings and Molotov cocktail attack

Sint-Jans-Molenbeek is bolstering its security measures in response to a spate of violent incidents, including shootings and a Molotov cocktail attack. The municipality announced an increased police presence, a ban on gatherings in affected areas, and intensified deployment of community wardens and street workers.

The recent shooting incidents occurred in the vicinity of De Rooverelaan, Heyvaertwijk, and the historic center. The attack involving a Molotov cocktail targeted a building's facade. Municipal authorities stated these events stem from conflicts between criminal networks linked to drug trafficking, who are attempting to extend their influence through intimidation and territorial disputes.

"Such a situation will not be tolerated," the municipality declared in a press release. Alongside enhanced police patrols, the local government is focusing on social support. More community wardens will engage with residents on the streets, while social street workers from the MOVE program will increase their efforts in the Heyvaertwijk, De Rooverelaan, and surrounding streets to assist residents.
