Second train derails in UK day after two injured

A second train derailed in the UK on Friday, just hours after a previous incident left two passengers with serious injuries. The Greater Anglia train came off the tracks south of Wickford railway station in Essex around 2:12 PM.

Officers are currently on scene just south of Wickford railway station in Essex following reports that the rear carriages of a train have derailed in an upright position at 2.12pm today.

British Transport Police confirmed that officers, paramedics, and firefighters responded to the scene. The rear carriages of the train reportedly derailed in an upright position. Approximately 40 to 45 passengers were on board the service traveling from Southend. No injuries have been reported in this latest incident.

This derailment follows a major incident declared by police in East Sussex on Thursday, where three carriages of a Southern train tipped onto their side, trapping passengers. Around 150 people were on that service. Two individuals were taken to major trauma centers with severe, but not life-threatening, injuries. Another 18 people were treated for less serious injuries and have since been discharged.

We're responding alongside paramedics and the fire service. There are currently no reported injuries.

Both incidents have led to significant travel disruption. National Rail indicated that no trains would run between Wickford and Southend Victoria until further notice, affecting services between London Liverpool Street and Southend Victoria, as well as the Southminster branch line. Network Rail stated they are working to understand the situation and provide assistance.
