Secret Service agent arrested in Miami over violent fraternity hazing

A U.S. Secret Service agent has been arrested in Miami alongside two other men, accused of orchestrating a brutal four-day fraternity hazing ritual that left two victims severely injured. The alleged assaults, which began on April 1 in Sweetwater, Florida, and continued over several days, culminated in a separate location under the jurisdiction of the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office.

Marquez Christopher Pinder, 29, a Secret Service agent assigned to the Miami field office, is identified as a leader responsible for overseeing aspirants in a chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, a historically African American fraternity. The national organization prohibits hazing and has not yet commented on the case. Investigators allege that the accused used canes and paddles to inflict repeated beatings, punishing victims for incorrect answers related to fraternity matters.

The investigation was prompted by a report on April 22 concerning a fraternity pledge hospitalized following the alleged initiation. Pinder, a Florida International University graduate who joined the Secret Service in September 2023, was placed on administrative leave. His attorney, Justin Beckham, argued that the charges against his client are "grossly exaggerated."

The Secret Service stated it is cooperating with the investigation and will take appropriate action after the judicial process concludes. The other two arrested individuals are Jared Lamar James, 26, and Elijah Delano Dyous, 29. All three face significant charges, including aggravated battery and kidnapping, as the investigation into the violent initiation continues.
