Security personnel salary increase will boost morale — Sokoto gov aid

Colonel Ahmed Usman (Rtd.), Special Adviser to the Sokoto State Governor on Security Matters, lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's approval of increased salaries and welfare packages for Nigerian Armed Forces members. He described the move as a crucial step towards strengthening the nation's security architecture.

Colonel Usman stated that the improved welfare package is expected to significantly boost the morale, commitment, and operational effectiveness of security personnel. He acknowledged the immense sacrifices made by these individuals who often operate under difficult and life-threatening conditions. The enhanced welfare, he noted, serves as recognition of their patriotism and a strategic investment in national peace and stability. A well-motivated security force, he added, is vital for effective intelligence gathering, rapid response to threats, and sustained operations against banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping.

The decision by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to improve the salaries and welfare of our security personnel is highly commendable. It will undoubtedly inspire greater dedication, professionalism and commitment among those at the forefront of safeguarding our nation.

However, the retired military officer cautioned that improved remuneration alone cannot resolve Nigeria's complex security challenges. He urged the federal government to complement the salary review with other essential provisions. These include modern operational equipment, continuous training and retraining programs, comprehensive insurance schemes, quality healthcare services, and decent housing for security personnel and their families.

Colonel Usman also called upon security operatives to uphold discipline, integrity, professionalism, and respect for human rights in their duties, thereby justifying the government's confidence. He appealed to Nigerians to support security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence, emphasizing that community participation is indispensable in the fight against insecurity. The Sokoto State government, he reaffirmed, remains committed to supporting security agencies operating within the state through sustained collaboration with federal institutions to protect lives and restore peace.
