An investigation into bribery allegations at the Seferihisar Municipality has led to 20 suspects, including Seferihisar Mayor İsmail Yetişkin, being sent to court. The operation, which began with the detention of 25 individuals including Balçova Mayor Onur Yiğit, focuses on alleged corruption in construction and zoning matters.

Investigators suspect that municipal officials and contractors engaged in illegal activities, exchanging bribes in cash and through bank transfers. These alleged offenses reportedly occurred before the March 31, 2024, local elections. The probe has already resulted in the arrest of Esin Uysal, the Director of Zoning and Urban Planning, who was subsequently imprisoned by a court.

In a related development, Balçova Mayor Onur Yiğit and Doğuş Bayır, a member of both the Izmir Metropolitan and Güzelbahçe Municipal Councils, were placed under house arrest. This decision followed their transfer to the courthouse. Another suspect, Ertan K., who is allegedly involved in illegal construction, was released after questioning by prosecutors. Meanwhile, Mayor Yetişkin and 19 other suspects completed their police procedures and were sent to court on Friday.
