Selangor declares holiday to honor SUKMA athletes and volunteers

Selangor has declared September 1 a special public holiday to recognize the dedication of athletes and the 10,000 volunteers who contributed to the success of the SUKMA XXII 2026 games. The announcement was made by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari during the closing ceremony.

"As the Menteri Besar, I am overjoyed by the incredible performance," Shari said, congratulating the Selangor contingent, known as the 'Merah Kuning' team. They secured an impressive 245 medals, comprising 101 gold, 73 silver, and 71 bronze, across 468 sporting events.

Selangor was officially crowned the overall champion of SUKMA XXII 2026. This historic achievement saw the host state's contingent of 850 athletes surpass their target of 80 gold medals. The closing ceremony was officiated by Raja Muda Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah, at Aneka Walks, Shah Alam.

The success was formally announced by Selangor Exco for Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneurship, Mohd. Najwan Halimi, who also chaired the SUKMA XXII Selangor 2026 Organizing Committee.
