Selangor's Islamic Heritage Festival Elevated to National Level

The Selangor Islamic Heritage Festival (FTIS), a significant event celebrating Islamic scholarship, has been elevated to the national stage for the first time, rebranding as the Malaysia Islamic Heritage Festival (FTIM) 2026. This expansion marks a new chapter for the festival, which has been held for four editions in Selangor.

Organized through a joint effort between the Selangor State Government and the Federal Government via the Department of Islamic Affairs, Prime Minister's Department, FTIM 2026 aims to further promote and deepen the understanding of Islamic heritage. The festival, scheduled from September 13 to 20, continues the tradition of highlighting the works of prominent Islamic scholars.

Since 2023, the festival has highlighted discussions and appreciation of works by respected scholars, including Ihya’ Ulumuddin by Imam Al-Ghazali, Al-Arba’in al-Nawawiyah by Imam Al-Nawawi, and Tafsir al-Jalalain by Imam Jalaluddin Al-Suyuti.

This year's theme, "Wisdom of Islamic Heritage," will focus on the influential work "Al-Hikam al-Ata'iyyah" by the renowned Sufi figure Ibnu Atha-illah As-Sakandari. This text is celebrated for its profound insights into sincerity, trust in God, and the servant's relationship with the divine, holding significant influence within Islamic scholarship globally, including in the Malay Archipelago.

This book gathers pearls of wisdom regarding sincerity, trust in God, and a servant's relationship with the Creator, and is among the most influential works of Sufism in the Islamic scholarly tradition worldwide, including the Malay World.

The eight-day festival will host prominent figures, including former Grand Mufti of Egypt, Sheikh Dr. Ali Jum’ah, alongside 23 local and international Islamic scholars. Over 42 study sessions are planned, featuring discussions on various Islamic texts and topics. Notable participants include Prof. Dr. Sayyid Idris al-Fasi al-Fihri, Ustaz Dr. Adi Hidayat, Ustaz Wadi Annuar, and the Mufti of Selangor, Sahibus Samahah Dato’ Setia Dr. Haji Anhar Haji Opir.

Key activities include dawn lectures, recitations of "Dalail al-Khairat," and five days of "Talaqqi Kitab Al-Hikam" (study sessions on Al-Hikam). The festival also includes public lectures, recitations of "Qasidah" (religious poetry), and an Islamic Book Fair, expected to draw significant interest, particularly from younger audiences. A new addition this year is the National Islamic Heritage Scholars' Forum, designed to foster intellectual collaboration among Islamic scholars nationwide and address contemporary challenges faced by the Muslim community.

The National Islamic Heritage Scholars' Forum will be organized for the first time to bring together Islamic scholars from across the country to strengthen intellectual cooperation and seek solutions to various challenges faced by the Muslim community today.
