Senator Buba clinches PRP governorship ticket

Senator Shehu Buba, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has been affirmed as the governorship candidate for the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Bauchi State for the 2027 elections. The affirmation followed the party's governorship primary, conducted in accordance with national guidelines and electoral laws.

The party constitution provides for affirmation even where there is only one aspirant. The delegates must agree and return the candidate elected, and that process has been completed.

Haruna Buhari, the PRP's Deputy National Vice Chairman (North) and overseer of the Bauchi primary, announced Buba's candidacy after 766 delegates from across the state's 20 local government areas endorsed him. Buhari noted that Buba emerged as the sole cleared aspirant, fulfilling all constitutional and legal requirements for affirmation, a process provided for in the party's constitution even when only one aspirant is present.

In his acceptance speech, Buba promised to implement a minimum wage of N80,000 for public servants if elected governor. He described the PRP as a movement dedicated to justice, equity, and the dignity of ordinary Nigerians, aligning with the political ideals of the late Mallam Aminu Kano. Buba extended an olive branch to supporters of other aspirants, calling for party unity.

Buba's policy agenda includes prioritizing security, economic development, infrastructure, agriculture, and mining. He plans to integrate traditional institutions, local security structures, and technology for a coordinated security response. He also pledged investments in roads, storage facilities, renewable energy, and industrial infrastructure. The affirmation occurred on the same day Buba officially defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PRP, citing alleged internal democracy deficits, unfair treatment, and marginalization within the ruling party.
