Senator Mitch McConnell Discharged from Rehab, Continues Recovery at Home

Republican Senator Mitch McConnell has been discharged from a rehabilitation center nearly two months after being hospitalized. The 84-year-old senator, who previously served as the Senate's Republican leader, is now continuing his recovery at home.

McConnell was admitted to the hospital on June 14 after experiencing a fall and losing consciousness. He subsequently developed pneumonia, which led to an extended hospital stay and rehabilitation. The senator's health issues have fueled speculation and raised concerns about the Republican Party's slim majority in the Senate.

In a statement, McConnell announced he would maintain an intensive physical therapy program at home, following his doctors' advice. He affirmed his intention to collaborate with his staff and colleagues on important Senate matters. His Senate term is set to conclude in January, and he has stated he will not seek re-election.

Should McConnell resign before his term ends, Kentucky law mandates a special election to fill the vacancy. The state's Democratic Governor, Andy Beshear, would not be able to appoint a temporary successor.
