Senator's Revelations Expose APC Govt's Failures on Security, Finances, Says Atiku

Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has seized upon recent statements by a senior senator of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to criticize the federal government's handling of the economy and security. Abubakar asserts that Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno's revelations validate the opposition's long-standing concerns about fiscal mismanagement and its deadly consequences.

For months, the APC dismissed every concern raised by the opposition about budget implementation, security funding and fiscal opacity as politics. Today, one of its own ranking senators has asked the very questions Nigerians have been asking.

According to Abubakar's spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, the senator's intervention directly addresses critical questions about budget implementation and financial transparency. Specifically, Monguno reportedly questioned why enacted budgets are not being faithfully executed and why trillions of naira generated by the Federation are allegedly being retained instead of distributed as constitutionally required.

Senator Monguno did not merely question budget implementation. He questioned why duly enacted budgets are allegedly not being faithfully implemented.

Most alarmingly, Abubakar highlighted, the senator questioned the lack of capital releases to critical security agencies amidst a worsening national security crisis. "These are not allegations from the opposition. They are grave constitutional questions raised by a distinguished senator of the ruling party," Abubakar stated, emphasizing that these are not mere political accusations but serious inquiries from within the ruling party itself.

He questioned why trillions of naira generated by the Federation are reportedly being retained instead of being distributed in accordance with the Constitution.

Abubakar argued that if security agencies are denied legally appropriated funds for equipment, intelligence, logistics, and operations, the government cannot evade responsibility for the ensuing violence. He posed a direct question to Nigerians: "Every massacre should compel Nigerians to ask one simple question: were our security agencies given the resources approved by law to prevent it?" He further questioned how security personnel can combat terrorists and bandits when those responsible for equipping them allegedly withhold necessary funds.
