Senator Victoria Stoiciu attacks Călin Georgescu after his visit to Vaslui: ‘An impostor with no connection to Christian values’

Senator Victoria Stoiciu has praised the Bishop of Huși for refusing to allow Călin Georgescu to conduct political activities in churches during the former presidential candidate’s visit to Vaslui.

In a Facebook post, Stoiciu described Bishop Ignatie Trif’s decision as an example of firmness and moral judgment that other representatives of the Romanian Orthodox Church should follow. She called Georgescu a pro-Russian politician and said the bishop deserved respect for blocking political events in churches in his diocese.

Ignatie Trif, Bishop of Huși, took a firm and dignified position by banning the pro-Russian politician Călin Georgescu from holding any political activities in the churches of his diocese.

Stoiciu argued that the Church could help distinguish genuine religious faith from its cynical use in election campaigns. She said the institution enjoys a high level of public trust and remains one of the few voices capable of helping people recognize politicians who present themselves with messianic claims.

If more hierarchs showed such judgment and moral strength, the Orthodox Church could play a crucial role in denouncing political charlatans who present themselves as messiahs.

She also criticized priests who, in her view, legitimize or bless Georgescu. “The lack of clarity and courage we see today among many priests who choose to legitimize and bless an impostor with no connection to Christian values is a dangerous mistake,” she wrote. Stoiciu said the example set in Vaslui should become a norm across the Church.

The senator also reacted to a separate episode linked to Georgescu’s visit. She mocked Constantin Nicolae, an AUR local councilor and leader of the party’s branch in Murgeni, after he urged people to stop buying products from the Marcomovas furniture factory in Vaslui. The call for a boycott came after factory representatives opposed Georgescu’s visit.

The Church remains among the few voices capable of helping a people hypnotized by impostors make a clear distinction between authentic faith and its cynical instrumentalization for electoral purposes.

Stoiciu contrasted Georgescu’s appeal for people to buy Romanian products with the boycott call directed at a Romanian factory that had refused to receive him.
