Senegal coach Pape Thiaw sacked after World Cup exit, 13th coach to go

Senegal's coach Pape Thiaw has been dismissed following the team's exit from the World Cup, bringing the total number of coaches removed during the tournament to 13. The decision came after Senegal's 3-2 loss to Belgium, a match where they had initially led 2-0, sparking significant debate within the country about the team's management.

The Federation of Senegalese Football (FSF) announced the termination of Thiaw, 45, and his technical staff on Sunday. The disappointment extended to the players, with Villarreal midfielder Pape Gueye stating on social media that he would take a "pause" from the national team as long as the current coaching staff remained.

Thiaw joins a growing list of coaches who have lost their jobs during the World Cup. The trend began with Sabri Lamouchi of Tunisia, who was removed after just one match following a 5-1 defeat to Sweden. Other coaches dismissed include Miroslav Koubek (Czech Republic), Steve Clarke (Scotland), Hong Myung-bo (South Korea), and Marcelo Bielsa (Uruguay) for failing to advance past the group stage. Sebastián Beccacece (Ecuador), Ronald Koeman (Netherlands), and Julian Nagelsmann (Germany) were let go after the round of 16. Javier Aguirre (Mexico), Carlos Queiroz (Ghana), and Roberto Martínez (Portugal) also departed after their teams were eliminated in the round of 16. Zlatko Dalic of Croatia was also added to this list after his team's elimination in the round of 16.
