Senior clerics urge re-elected NU leader to unite all elements of organization

Senior clerics have urged KH Miftachul Akhyar to bring together all elements of Nahdlatul Ulama after selecting him for a second term as the organization’s Rais Aam. The message came from members of the Ahlul Halli wal Aqdi, or AHWA, during the 35th NU Congress in Jombang, East Java.

KH Anwar Iskandar said the instruction represented a shared mandate from all AHWA members. He said Miftachul should invite every available force within Nahdlatul Ulama to work together to care for and manage the organization.

“Whatever their previous background in the organization’s internal dynamics, we will invite everyone,” Anwar said while reading the meeting record at the congress venue. The message called for an inclusive approach despite differences during earlier organizational developments.

The elected Rais Aam is entrusted with inviting the potential that exists within Nahdlatul Ulama, in any form, so that going forward we can work together to care for and manage Nahdlatul Ulama.

Nine senior clerics chose Miftachul unanimously in a closed meeting at the residence of KH Wahab Hasbullah, held at the Bahrul Ulum Islamic boarding school site. The decision was announced by Anwar, accompanied by fellow AHWA member KH Said Aqil Siradj, and the appointment record was signed by all nine members.

The AHWA members named in the record were KH Nurul Huda Dazuli, TGK KH Nuruzzahri Yahya, KH Baharuddin HS, KH Miftakhul Akhyar, KH Afifuddin Muhajir, KH Anwar Iskandar, KH Anwar Manshur, KH Said Aqil Siradj and KH Abun Bunyamin.
