Senior ISWAP finance chief, sons surrender to army in Borno

A high-ranking finance official for the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), along with his two sons, has surrendered to Nigerian troops in Borno State. The surrender occurred on Saturday along the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia axis, a key supply route in the Gamboru–Wulgo area.

The insurgent laid down his arms to soldiers from the 3rd Battalion, part of the 24th Task Force Brigade. Preliminary assessments identified the individual as the Chief Finance Operative for the ISWAP enclave at Jubillaram, responsible for overseeing the group's financial and logistical operations. Troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, a motorcycle, and ₦40,000 in cash during the operation.

According to Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Media Information Officer for Headquarters Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), the capitulation is a result of sustained military offensives targeting terrorist strongholds. Goni stated that the surrender of a key finance officer represents a significant setback for ISWAP, indicating growing disillusionment within the terrorist group's ranks and an increasing wave of defections. Military authorities reported that approximately 46 terrorists and their family members have surrendered in recent days due to mounting operational pressure. The suspect and his children are currently undergoing interrogation to gather intelligence for ongoing military operations.
