Sensational in Birmingham: Marino Bloudek wins silver medal at European Athletics Championships!

Croatian athlete Marino Bloudek achieved a career-defining moment by securing a silver medal in the 800 meters at the European Athletics Championships held in Birmingham. The Croatian record holder completed the final race in 1 minute and 45.62 seconds, marking the pinnacle of his athletic achievements.

Ireland's Mark English claimed the European title with a time of 1:45.26. Bloudek's silver medal placed him ahead of Spain's Mohamed Attaoui, who was also officially recorded with the same time of 1:45.62, but Bloudek secured the second position.

The final experienced an unexpected twist shortly before the start when Great Britain's Max Burgin, a strong contender for a medal and the winner of Bloudek's semifinal heat, withdrew just 12 minutes before the race commenced. English took control in the final stretch after being in third place after the first lap, ultimately securing his first European gold medal.

This silver medal from Birmingham represents the peak of the 27-year-old Virovitica native's career. Earlier in the year, he placed fifth in the final of the World Indoor Championships in Toruń. Bloudek previously won the European Junior Championship in the 800 meters in 2017. His Croatian outdoor record stands at 1:44.01.
