Seoul Braces for 'Water Bomb' Rainfall Up to 150mm; Tropical Nights Expected

Residents in the Seoul metropolitan area are advised to carry umbrellas on Tuesday, July 21st, as heavy rainfall, characterized as a 'water bomb,' is expected. The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasts significant precipitation across most of the country, with localized downpours in the central regions.

Specific rainfall amounts are projected to range from 30 to 100mm in Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi Province, with some areas in Incheon and northern Gyeonggi potentially receiving over 150mm. Similar heavy rainfall is anticipated in inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon Province. Other regions, including Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungnam, can expect between 30 to 80mm, with northern coastal areas of Chungnam possibly exceeding 100mm.

The forecast indicates a possibility of heavy rain warnings due to strong winds, thunder, and lightning, particularly in central regions, continuing until July 22nd. Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to remain close to or slightly above average for this time of year. Many areas will experience daytime high temperatures around 31 degrees Celsius, with some regions under heat advisories reaching up to 33-35 degrees Celsius.

Overnight temperatures are also expected to be warm, with minimums staying above 25 degrees Celsius in many locations, leading to tropical nights. Morning low temperatures are predicted to range from 22 to 26 degrees Celsius, while daytime highs will fluctuate between 26 and 37 degrees Celsius across the country.
