Seoul City University Awards Top Graduate Student Papers for Second Half of 2026

Seoul City University celebrated its top graduate student researchers at an award ceremony for the second half of 2026, held on August 13 in the university's main building. The event honored students who have published exceptional papers in domestic and international academic journals.

The ceremony was established to encourage outstanding research outcomes and inspire the next generation of scholars. This year marked the introduction of a new 'Top Award' alongside the existing 'Excellence Award' and 'Merit Award.' This new category aims to more actively recognize graduate students producing world-class research and systematically nurture globally competitive talent.

A total of 49 students received awards: 29 for the Top Award, 6 for the Excellence Award, and 14 for the Merit Award. Selections were based on a comprehensive evaluation of the quality of papers published in prestigious journals such as SCI(E), SSCI, A&HCI, SCOPUS, and KCI, as well as the journals' impact.

Seoul City University has been progressively expanding its research support policies, particularly for graduate students, to strengthen their research capabilities and improve the quality of academic outcomes. This has led to a significant increase in international journal publications by graduate students, rising from 114 in 2022 to 201 in 2025, a 76.3% increase over three years. Notably, 2025 saw a substantial jump of 80 publications compared to the previous year.

University President Won Yong-gul emphasized the significance of the awards, stating, "Today's awards represent more than just publishing an excellent paper; they are valuable achievements recognizing your potential and academic capabilities as future researchers. The newly established Top Award, in particular, is designed to more actively encourage students who have achieved world-class research results. We will continue to provide research environments and support so that our graduate students can showcase their research capabilities on the global stage."
