Seoul City Urges Caution on Yongsan Park Housing Development

Seoul City has firmly stated its opposition to a proposal that would consider Yongsan Park as a site for housing development. The city's spokesperson, Lee Min-kyung, reiterated Seoul's stance, emphasizing that any plan to develop housing on the parkland requires extreme caution. Lee stressed that Yongsan Park is not merely vacant land but a precious national asset crucial for protecting citizens' lives in an era of climate crisis and must be passed on intact to future generations. The city's position aligns with the fundamental purpose of the Yongsan Park Development Special Act, which aims to preserve the park as a space for public leisure, rest, and natural ecology. Seoul argues that such a significant decision, impacting one of the capital's last large urban green spaces, should not be rushed to meet immediate housing targets without comprehensive social discussion and consensus.
