Seoul Issues Heatwave Advisory as Temperatures Surpass 33 Degrees Celsius

Seoul has elevated its heatwave crisis alert to the 'Advisory' level as the capital grapples with soaring temperatures and persistent tropical nights. The city issued a heatwave advisory for several districts, including the northeast, southeast, and southwest, with tropical night advisories also in effect for the southeast and southwest.

A heatwave advisory is issued when the daily maximum apparent temperature is expected to exceed 33 degrees Celsius for two consecutive days. A tropical night advisory is declared when the minimum temperature remains above 26 degrees Celsius from evening until the following morning for consecutive days.

In response, Seoul has activated its emergency response system, upgrading the crisis alert from 'Attention' to 'Advisory.' The city has established five situation rooms staffed by seven personnel, with districts deploying 67 teams comprising 303 individuals for emergency duty. Additional patrol personnel are also operating.

The city is intensifying efforts to protect vulnerable populations, conducting welfare checks and health support for approximately 33,189 individuals. Public guidance on heatwave safety measures is being disseminated through electronic billboards, social media, and emergency text messages. A safety message was sent to residents in the southeast and southwest districts advising them to maintain cool indoor environments, stay hydrated, and check on family and neighbors.
