Seoul Mayor Inspects Seongsu Bridge Ramp, Vows Transparent Disclosure of Findings

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon personally inspected the site of a height difference on the Seongsu Bridge's southern connecting ramp on July 29. Following a report on the current measures and safety plans for the area with the height difference, Oh observed an on-site test conducted by external experts in structural and geotechnical engineering.

The test involved removing asphalt to examine the ground conditions and bearing capacity. While the bridge structure has shown no signs of instability so far, the city is verifying the ground conditions with external experts to ensure public reassurance. The city plans to take necessary actions based on the test results and a detailed safety diagnosis.

"Although the bridge structure has shown no signs of instability, it is Seoul City's responsibility to thoroughly investigate and explain any concerns citizens may have," Oh stated. "We will transparently disclose the verification results, promptly implement necessary measures, and use this incident to strengthen inspections and preventative management for similar facilities, ensuring citizen safety to the end."
