Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon Avoided Campaigning With Party Leader Jang Dong-hyuk

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon revealed he went to considerable lengths to avoid campaigning alongside People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk during the recent election period. Oh, who secured a fifth term in the June 3 local elections, described moments of difficulty in his campaign schedule as he sought to steer clear of Jang. Initially, Jang focused his campaign efforts on provincial areas, but he later shifted to the Seoul metropolitan region in the final days before the election. Oh stated that he believed any direct encounters or joint appearances with Jang would not have helped his vote tally. "I started to avoid him because I thought running into Jang would not help my vote count," Oh said on TV Chosun's 'Rivals' program. He further elaborated that his campaign team worked to avoid overlapping schedules with Jang in the last day or two of the election. The mayor also addressed the internal party discussions regarding Jang's potential resignation. Oh suggested that the resignation process might take time, as party lawmakers would likely want to avoid a scenario where Jang is seen as being forced out disgracefully, prioritizing their own pride. This comes after Oh himself stated on June 17 that Jang's leadership had "served its term."
