Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon: Must maintain relations with Yoon Suk-yeol's supporters

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon has stated that he must maintain relations with the political faction supporting former President Yoon Suk-yeol, despite Yoon's past "political misjudgment" in declaring martial law. In an interview with Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun, Oh characterized the recent mayoral election victory as evidence of continued public expectation for the conservative camp. "Both party cohesion and expanding the centrist vote are important for conservative reconstruction," Oh explained. He emphasized that while a political party needs a core base of supporters, elections are ultimately won by securing the support of undecided and centrist voters. When asked about maintaining ties with Yoon's supporters, Oh responded, "We must maintain relations. What needs to be separated is Yoon Suk-yeol's incorrect political judgment." Oh also addressed the possibility of alliances with figures outside the ruling party, such as independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon and Reform Party leader Lee Jun-seok. He stated that cooperation is necessary with those who share political values and direction. He included former lawmaker Yoo Seong-min and lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo, who supported him during the Seoul mayoral election, among those with similar views. Regarding a potential presidential run in four years, Oh stated, "The possibility always exists, but it depends on the political situation at the time." He stressed that his current priority is to achieve results befitting a five-term mayor. His most significant task, he noted, is ensuring sufficient housing supply. He expressed disagreement with the current government's policies, which he believes simultaneously increase property holding and transaction taxes while severely restricting mortgage loans, potentially leading to increased security deposits and rents.
