Seoul Medical Center redesignated as regional emergency center for Northeast Seoul

Seoul Medical Center has secured its role as the primary emergency medical hub for Seoul's northeastern region, having been redesignated as the regional emergency medical center by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. This designation allows the hospital to continue providing critical care for severe emergency patients and serve as a key medical institution during disasters until November 2029.

This reappointment recognizes the hospital's capabilities in critical care and disaster preparedness, including specialized units for infectious diseases and pediatrics.

The hospital's renewed designation underscores its established capabilities in handling complex medical emergencies and large-scale disaster response. Beyond its core emergency services, Seoul Medical Center also operates as a regional mental health emergency center and a child safety hospital, broadening its scope of care to encompass mental health and pediatric emergencies.

To bolster its emergency response infrastructure, Seoul Medical Center constructed a dedicated building in 2021. This facility houses an emergency room, an ICU specifically for emergency patients, and a hyperbaric oxygen therapy room. It features separate entrances and pathways for general emergency patients and those with infectious diseases, along with isolation rooms.

Seoul Medical Center's regional emergency medical center has strived to provide high-quality emergency medical care 24 hours a day with all medical staff and employees.

The center actively manages a Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) for rapid response during major disasters and strengthens regional medical cooperation through the Northeast Seoul Emergency Medical Council. Lee Dae-seong, head of the center, emphasized their commitment to providing high-quality, round-the-clock emergency care, aiming to be a reliable safety net for the residents of Northeast Seoul.
