SeoulTech ANCHOR Project Team Successfully Hosts '2026 Summer AI Hackathon' for University Students

Seoul National University of Science and Technology (SeoulTech) successfully concluded its '2026 Summer AI Hackathon' on August 11. Hosted by the university's ANCHOR project team, the event took place at the HL Human Resources Development Center in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.

This hackathon was organized as part of the 'Seoul-Regional Sharing and Cooperation Activation' initiative under the Seoul ANCHOR project. It gathered students from four consortium universities, including SeoulTech, Kumoh National Institute of Technology, Hanbat National University, and Ajou University. The program focused on collaborative efforts to identify challenges faced by local communities and industries, and to develop practical AI-driven solutions.

The main theme of the hackathon was 'Designing Solutions for Risk Resolution in Region-Specific Industries Using Seoul's AI Technology and Infrastructure, and Promoting Hyper-Regional Settlement.' Participants chose tracks focusing on improving productivity and safety in manufacturing, industrial complexes, and SMEs, or on developing resource-sharing platforms connecting campuses and regions, and matching youth and corporate projects.

SeoulTech's ANCHOR project team highlighted the event's success in confirming the potential of a hyper-regional cooperation model that links Seoul's educational and technological infrastructure with the needs of regional universities and industries. The team plans to expand educational cooperation and industry-linked programs, particularly in Seoul's strategic sectors like AI, semiconductors, and ICT.

Kim Dong-ho, head of SeoulTech's ANCHOR project team, stated, "This hackathon was a meaningful opportunity for students to directly identify problems faced by local communities and industries using AI and to materialize feasible solutions." He added, "We will continue to expand student-led, practical programs that organically connect Seoul's AI technology and educational infrastructure with the needs of regional universities and local areas, fostering hyper-regional cooperation and mutual growth between Seoul and the regions."
