SeoulTech ranks 18th nationwide in external research funding per faculty member, rising 14 places

Seoul National University of Science and Technology has climbed 14 places in the national ranking for external research funding per full-time faculty member, moving from 32nd to 18th in the 2026 university information disclosure based on 2025 performance.

The university’s total external research funding reached 77.01853 billion won, a 38.5% increase from 55.58982 billion won the previous year. Funding secured per full-time faculty member rose from 129.27 million won to 177.05 million won, an increase of 36.9%.

SeoulTech described external research funding as a key indicator of a university’s ability to win research projects and the strength of its research activity. It attributed the performance to expanded large-scale research and development projects from the central government, local governments and industry, as well as stronger faculty research capabilities.

Research projects have been particularly active in advanced technology fields, including semiconductors, secondary batteries, artificial intelligence and biotechnology. The university said its international profile had also strengthened, with 24 of its researchers named among the 2025 World’s Top 2% Scientists.

President Kim Dong-hwan called the result “a valuable fruit created by our university’s research competitiveness and the efforts of its members.” He said SeoulTech would accelerate the creation of a “business campus” and continue expanding the environment and support systems that allow researchers to focus on their work.

Kim Ki-tae, head of SeoulTech’s industry-academic cooperation foundation, said the simultaneous growth in total external funding and funding per faculty member showed that the university’s foundation for winning research projects had expanded both quantitatively and qualitatively. SeoulTech plans to deepen research and development cooperation with government, local authorities and industry, while upgrading its support system.
