‘Sepultura at Instituto Nacional’ documentary to premiere at Ceina

In 2003, Brazil’s Sepultura played at a high school in central Santiago. More than two decades later, that unlikely concert has become the subject of a documentary premiering at the school’s own cultural center.

The film, “Sepultura at Instituto Nacional: Labor Omnia Vincit,” is directed by Álvaro Cariqueo Lavín. It reconstructs how an idea from the school’s student council became what the filmmakers describe as a legendary concert.

The show grew out of “Míster Institutano,” an anniversary celebration that brought thousands of students and former students together in the 1990s. The event combined a stage show, concert and party, and gradually became more focused on live music. Recognized Chilean acts such as Los Tres, Sinergia and Joe Vasconcellos performed alongside groups from the school.

For the institution’s 190th anniversary in 2003, the student council wanted something different, even spectacular. The result was Sepultura performing at Instituto Nacional, an event remembered more than 20 years later through the new film.

The documentary will receive a one-off screening at Ceina, the cultural center of Instituto Nacional, on October 7. Tickets are limited and available through Passline.
