Serbia Battles Four Major Wildfires, Largest Burns Over 700 Hectares

Serbia is battling four significant wildfires across its territory, deploying a substantial force of 484 personnel and more than 110 vehicles to combat the blazes. The most severe fire is raging in Šumarak, within the Deliblatska Peščara area, having already consumed over 700 hectares. This particular fire has mobilized 296 individuals, including firefighters, volunteers, forestry workers, and military personnel, supported by numerous vehicles and heavy machinery.

In other areas, a fire in Maglič, near Kraljevo, which affected approximately 170 hectares of low vegetation and pine forest, was localized by Friday evening. Following this success, some of the deployed forces were redirected to assist with a fire on Stolovi mountain, also in the Kraljevo region, where dry grass, shrubs, and deciduous forest are burning.

Meanwhile, a fire in Gabrovnica, near Zaječar, which covered about 100 hectares, has also been localized. Despite localization, emergency services remain on-site, working to ensure the fires are completely extinguished. A total of 217 firefighters from various units across Serbia, supported by volunteer fire departments, public enterprises, and the Serbian Army, are actively engaged in these efforts. The priority remains to bring all fires under full control, prevent further spread, and protect people and property.
