Serbia: Heatwave to persist with temperatures up to 35°C, wildfire risk high

Serbia is bracing for continued high temperatures as the Republic Hydrometeorological Service (RHMZ) forecasts maximums ranging from 30 to 35 degrees Celsius for most days until the end of August. The southern and southeastern parts of the country are expected to experience the highest temperatures today.

While the forecast includes the possibility of passing clouds bringing short-lived rain and thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon and evening, these are not expected to significantly alleviate the heat. Winds will be light to moderate, becoming strong in the southern Banat region before shifting to the northwest. By Friday and Saturday, temperatures could again exceed 35 degrees Celsius in other parts of the country.

The persistent heat, coupled with a deficit in rainfall and occasional strong winds, is contributing to dry vegetation and a heightened risk of outdoor fires. This combination of factors poses a significant concern for the region as it navigates the final weeks of summer.
