Serbia: Student support protest and SNS counter-demonstration continue for hours in Savino Selo

A protest supporting students and a counter-demonstration by supporters of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) have been ongoing for over nine hours in the village of Savino Selo, located in the municipality of Vrbas.

The two groups have been present in the village center since 1 PM, with an intervention police unit also deployed to the scene. According to reports from citizens participating in the student support protest, individuals from the SNS group have directed insults and threats towards them. These supporters, they claim, were transported to Savino Selo from Vrbas and Bačka Palanka.

Savino Selo has become known in the past year for the villagers' persistent weekly gatherings to commemorate victims of a canopy collapse. In recent weeks, counter-demonstrations by government supporters have also been organized in the village streets.
