Serbia to Distribute 6,000 Dinars to All Adults, Cites Need for Law Change

President Aleksandar Vučić announced that Serbia will distribute 6,000 dinars to all adult citizens from the Share Fund on September 22. He explained that some individuals will receive larger sums, potentially reaching 12,000 or even 18,000 dinars, as they have inherited shares from deceased relatives.

Vučić stated that a legislative amendment is required to facilitate these payments. The current law, enacted around 2007-2008, stipulates that only those who were adults by 2007 are eligible. This means payments must now be made to the heirs of approximately 1.3 million deceased individuals, processed through inheritance procedures. Consequently, some people will receive the payment multiple times, resulting in amounts of 12,000 or 18,000 dinars.

The president clarified that the total number of payments will be 7,668,000. He reiterated that all adult citizens will receive 6,000 dinars, with some receiving more. The law change is crucial to ensure that individuals who have turned 18 since 2007, and would otherwise be ineligible, can also receive this financial benefit.

Currently, citizens are eligible if they were adults by December 31, 2007, and had not previously received free shares. Approximately 4.8 million such citizens received shares in Telekom Srbija, Aerodrom Nikola Tesla, NIS, and the Share Fund itself. The upcoming legislative change aims to broaden eligibility to all adult citizens.
