Serbia to honor Operation Storm victims, promote peace: PM Macut

Serbian Prime Minister Djuro Macut stated on Tuesday that Serbia will consistently honor the memory of every innocent victim of Operation Storm and advocate for peace, stability, and dialogue. The day marks the 31st anniversary of the Croatian military and police operation that led to the exodus of over 200,000 Serbs from Croatia.

Macut described remembering the victims as a moral obligation and the foundation for genuine reconciliation. "Their suffering must not be forgotten," he said, according to a Serbian Government press release. He added that peace is not about forgetting but about having the strength to remember, honor victims, and responsibly build a future where such tragedies do not recur.

Operation Storm began on August 4, 1995, with an offensive by Croatian forces targeting regions that comprised the then-unrecognized Republika Srpska Krajina. The operation resulted in the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people.
