Serbian Army Installs Pontoon Bridge to Great War Island

Members of the Serbian Army have successfully installed a pontoon bridge across the Danube River, re-establishing the connection between the Lido beach on Great War Island and the Zemun bank. This annual initiative by the Ministry of Defence aims to provide access to the popular recreational area during the summer months.

The newly constructed pontoon bridge measures 345 meters in length and has a load capacity of 20 tons. It is designed to accommodate both pedestrians and vehicles belonging to city services. The bridge is scheduled to open to the public on July 1, offering a vital link to the island's amenities.

Personnel from the River Flotilla's pontoon unit, responsible for the bridge's construction and maintenance, will oversee its security and upkeep throughout its operational period. They have established the crossing point and will ensure its safety for all users.

Officials anticipate that the pontoon bridge will remain in service until the end of August. Following its decommissioning, the bridge will be dismantled and transported back to its home garrison. The duration of its use is contingent upon favorable river water levels.
