Serbian Farmer Cuts Down Plum Orchard, Citing Unsustainable Costs Amid Government Criticism

A Serbian fruit farmer is resorting to drastic measures, cutting down his plum orchard because he can no longer cover production costs. This decision highlights the severe economic pressures facing the agricultural sector in Serbia.

Miroslav Aleksić, president of the People's Movement of Serbia (NPS), has publicly criticized the government, accusing it of "destroying the Serbian peasant" for years. He pointed to this farmer's situation as a direct consequence of what he describes as failed government policies.

Aleksić argues that the inability of farmers like this one to sustain their operations is forcing them to abandon their land and livelihoods. He contends that the current administration's actions, or lack thereof, have created an environment where agricultural production is no longer economically viable for many, leading to the dismantling of traditional farming practices.
