Serbia and Ukraine sign animal health and food safety cooperation deal

Serbia and Ukraine have formalized a partnership aimed at bolstering cooperation in animal health and food safety. The memorandum was signed by Serbia's Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management, Dragan Glamočić, and Ukraine's Ambassador to Serbia, Oleksandr Litvynenko, representing Ukraine's State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection.

This agreement establishes a framework for more direct collaboration between relevant institutions. It includes provisions for exchanging expertise and knowledge, ultimately fostering safer and more efficient trade in animals and products of animal origin. A key focus is placed on preventing and controlling animal diseases, particularly those that cross borders, alongside sharing data on inspection oversight and risk assessments.

The memorandum also outlines cooperation in the approval processes for export facilities and the harmonization of veterinary certificates. Minister Glamočić highlighted the goal of creating clear and predictable trade conditions, opening new avenues for Serbian producers while ensuring adherence to veterinary and sanitary standards. This initiative aims to improve animal and human health protection, enhance food safety, and remove administrative barriers to secure trade.
