Serbian Party Demands Urgent Assembly Session After Worker's Death at Linglong Factory

The League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina (LSV) – Vojvođani faction has called for an immediate session of the Zrenjanin City Assembly following the death of a worker at the Chinese-owned Linglong tire factory. The party highlighted that four days have passed since the incident, yet Mayor Simo Salapura has not addressed the public regarding worker safety at the factory operating within his jurisdiction.

For years we have warned about all the dangers related to 'Linglong's' work. You remained silent. Now a young life has been extinguished.

LSV stated that they have warned about the dangers associated with Linglong's operations for years, but their concerns were ignored. The party emphasized that a young life has been lost and demanded that Mayor Salapura and City Assembly President Čedomir Janjić urgently convene a session to inform council members about all aspects of safety at the factory.

According to unofficial information, the deceased was a young male worker who died while attempting to fix a malfunction on a machine. Tara Rukeci Milivojević from the Zrenjanin Social Forum indicated that workers have reported frequent incidents on certain machines, but details remain speculative pending an official statement from Linglong.

The Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Zrenjanin announced that the worker's injury and death resulted from a failure to adhere to operational rules. This incident follows a previous action in December 2025, when U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued a hold on Linglong tire shipments due to evidence suggesting forced labor in their production.
