Serena and Venus Williams to play Wimbledon doubles

Tennis legends Serena and Venus Williams are set to compete in the Wimbledon doubles tournament, having been granted a wildcard entry. This marks their return as a pair to the Grand Slam event where they previously clinched six titles between 2000 and 2016.

While the sisters are not among the wildcard entries for the singles competition, there is still one wildcard spot remaining in the women's singles draw. Serena, a 44-year-old with 23 Grand Slam singles titles, recently made her comeback at Queen's Club alongside Canadian Victoria Mboko. This was her first official match in nearly four years, since the 2022 US Open. The pair advanced to the second round before withdrawing due to Mboko's injury.

Looking ahead to Wimbledon, Serena is scheduled to compete in Berlin with Czech player Karolina Muchova. Venus, 45, a five-time Wimbledon singles champion, will arrive at the tournament having lost all seven of her singles matches this season. Together, the American sisters boast an impressive doubles record, with 14 Grand Slam titles and three Olympic gold medals, solidifying their status as one of the greatest doubles duos of all time.

Other players receiving wildcard entries include surprise Roland Garros finalist Maja Chwalinska of Poland for the women's singles, and Swiss player Stan Wawrinka for the men's singles, who aims to win the only Grand Slam title he hasn't claimed before his planned retirement at the end of the season.
