Serious accident on Učka claims the life of a 19-year-old German; important detail revealed in ongoing investigation

A 19-year-old German national lost his life in a serious traffic accident on August 8, on the county road 5047 between Vele Učke and Veprinac. The young motorcyclist died at the scene.

According to the Primorje-Gorski Kotar Police Department, the accident occurred around 4:50 PM. The victim was riding a motorcycle with German license plates from Vele Učke towards Veprinac. Police determined that he did not adjust his speed to the road conditions, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle and fall. He and his motorcycle then crossed into the lane for oncoming traffic, where he collided with a car driven by a 40-year-old Croatian citizen, accompanied by a 47-year-old passenger.

Following the collision, the motorcyclist sustained injuries from which he died at the scene. His body was transported to the Institute of Forensic Medicine and Criminalistics at the Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka for an autopsy. The section of the road was closed for traffic until 7:30 PM for the investigation.

Further investigation revealed that the deceased 19-year-old was part of a group of enduro motorcycle riders traveling together. The motorcycles of the other group members were temporarily confiscated and sent for an extraordinary technical inspection. Dangerous technical defects were found on these vehicles, and the riders were fined 660 euros each for the violations. Police used the incident to warn about the importance of technical compliance for enduro motorcycles used on public roads, emphasizing that all vehicles must meet prescribed technical conditions before entering traffic.
