Settler opens fire near Israeli and Palestinian activists in West Bank

Tensions flared near Bethlehem when a settler opened fire, aiming at a group of Israeli and Palestinian activists in Beit Sahour, located in the occupied West Bank. The confrontation occurred after the activists convened for a joint initiative protesting the recent takeover of private Palestinian land by Jewish radicals. The incident was captured on video by the Israeli human rights organization Combatants for Peace, which was present at the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The activists, comprising both Palestinians and Israelis, had gathered to peacefully oppose the establishment of an outpost by settlers on an abandoned building situated on private Palestinian property. According to Combatants for Peace, upon their arrival, they began removing Israeli flags and replacing them with Palestinian ones, at which point the shots were fired, forcing them to seek shelter. The property in question is located in Area C of the West Bank, which is under Israeli military and civil control. Despite the presence of a military post in the vicinity, the activists reported that Israeli troops took approximately thirty minutes to arrive after the shooting began. The Israeli military has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident. The event highlights the ongoing conflict and friction surrounding land seizures and settler activity in the West Bank, and the challenges faced by activists attempting to peacefully protest such actions.
