Seven confirmed dead in Rasuwa flood

At least seven people have died after a massive flash flood surged through the Bhotekoshi River in Nepal's mountainous Rasuwa district early Wednesday. The devastating flood has ravaged settlements and infrastructure along the river's path.

As of Wednesday afternoon, at least 25 people have been rescued, according to the Nepali Army spokesperson. Search and rescue operations are in full swing, with the Nepali Army, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police mobilized. Fourteen helicopters have been deployed to aid in these efforts.

Significant damage has been reported in market areas and security posts. Notably, nine Armed Police Force personnel deployed at Timure, a location near the Nepal-China border, are among those missing. The exact cause of the floods remains unconfirmed by authorities.

Officials at Nepal’s Flood Forecasting Division have received informal reports suggesting a landslide in Tibet may have blocked the river, leading to the subsequent overflow. Chinese authorities have been unable to establish contact with security personnel stationed along the border. In response to the ongoing threat, authorities are urging residents near the Trishuli River to move to higher ground and stay away from riverbanks, anticipating that the flood's impact will diminish downstream.
