Seven Die, Two Injured in Auto Crash Along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

A devastating multi-vehicle collision on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway resulted in the deaths of seven people and injuries to two others in the early hours of Monday. The crash occurred around Kara, involving a Howo CNG/CIMC ENRIC truck, a Mack trailer, and a Mitsubishi Canter.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), all nine individuals involved were male. Seven died at the scene, while the two injured were transported for medical treatment. The FRSC attributed the fatal crash, classified as a "fatal multiple road traffic crash," to speed violation, though further investigation is ongoing.

This latest tragedy adds to a disturbing pattern of accidents along the Kara/Ibafo section of the expressway. In July, a crash involving five articulated trucks killed one person, and another collision days later caused significant traffic disruption. Another incident on August 17 saw a truck kill a pedestrian near Kara Bridge, reportedly due to brake failure.

In response to the recurring incidents, Ogun State Sector Commander Oludare Ogunjobi urged motorists, especially drivers of articulated vehicles, to adhere to speed limits, maintain safe distances, and remain vigilant. The frequency of these accidents highlights persistent safety concerns on one of Nigeria's busiest transport routes.
