Seven Homes Damaged in Medan Explosion; Four Still Trapped

A powerful explosion rocked the Grand Polonia housing complex in Medan, Indonesia, on Monday, leaving at least seven homes damaged and sparking a major search and rescue operation.

The blast, which occurred in the Polonia District, originated from a luxury house identified as Number 3B. The house was completely destroyed, with its three-story structure suffering catastrophic damage, including a collapsed balcony and a shattered facade. The force of the explosion was so intense that debris, including concrete, metal, and glass, was hurled across the complex, damaging surrounding homes and vehicles parked nearby.

Authorities confirmed that four people remain trapped inside the destroyed residence. According to Kombes Jean Calvijn Simanjuntak, the head of the Medan City Police, six individuals were initially believed to be inside the house. One man has been evacuated and is receiving hospital treatment, while a toddler is also being treated. The ongoing efforts focus on locating and rescuing the four remaining individuals: the owner's wife and three domestic workers.

"We are praying together that the evacuation we are carrying out will be fruitful," Simanjuntak stated at the scene, appealing for public prayers for the victims' safe recovery. The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation, but the severe destruction points to a significant event. The incident has left residents in shock and highlighted the destructive potential of such an event within a residential area.
