Seven-seat electric SUV sets world range record with 936 km on one charge

A Skoda Peaq 90 has traveled 936 kilometers on a single charge, a distance Skoda says sets a world record for a seven-seat electric SUV. The vehicle made the journey from the automaker’s headquarters in Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic, to the coastal town of Zandvoort in the Netherlands without stopping to recharge.

TÜV SÜD supervised the test and recorded average electricity consumption of just 9.2 kWh per 100 kilometers. That figure is notably below the level normally expected from a large electric SUV. The Peaq 90 has a 91-kWh battery, with 86 kWh available for use.

Its certified WLTP range is 647 kilometers. The test therefore exceeded the official figure by 289 kilometers, or nearly 45 percent. Skoda acknowledged that drivers would not easily reproduce the result in everyday use. The car was driven using hypermiling techniques, with speed, acceleration and other inputs adjusted to minimize energy consumption.

The route also favored efficiency, making the test a demonstration of the vehicle’s maximum potential rather than a simulation of ordinary driving. Still, the record-setting car was not a specially built prototype. Skoda said it kept its factory configuration, without removing equipment or fitting special wheels. The only notable change involved sealing the charging-port cover to verify that the vehicle received no additional power.

Aerodynamics also helped. The Peaq has a drag coefficient of 0.249 and used 19-inch wheels during the run. Its rear-mounted electric motor produces up to 210 kW, or 282 horsepower, and drives the rear wheels. Skoda said the 647-kilometer WLTP figure remains the more useful comparison with other electric vehicles, while real-world range depends on speed, temperature, terrain, load and driving style. The Peaq is Skoda’s largest model and starts at 1.15 million koruna in its home market.
