Severe Storms Cause Mudslides in Sölden, Tirol; 30 Evacuated

Heavy thunderstorms triggered mudslides in Sölden, located in Tirol's Ötztal valley, on Wednesday evening, July 29, 2026. The events primarily affected the Rofenhöfen area near the district of Vent.

A mudslide reportedly blocked a road, prompting the evacuation of around 30 individuals. These residents were subsequently accommodated in a local hotel in Vent. Mayor Ernst Schöpf confirmed that while property damage was sustained, no injuries occurred.

Damage included a parking lot being undermined, with cars affected, and a sewage treatment plant in the northern part of the municipality suffering damage. Some underground garages also experienced water ingress. Reports indicate that sections of roads in the Venter Tal were washed away. However, the Ötztaler Ache river was not significantly obstructed, though it did carry a large volume of water.

Emergency alerts, including AT-Alert and civil defense alarms, were briefly activated for the municipality. Residents were advised to follow official instructions, avoid basements and underpasses, stay indoors on upper floors, and keep away from waterways and bridges. The warnings were lifted shortly after 11 p.m. as the severe weather moved out of the area, leaving behind a clear night sky.
