Severe thunderstorms trigger enhanced alert in Taipei

Taipei was hit by intense thunderstorms on a recent afternoon, prompting city officials to raise the disaster response alert. The Wenshan District, located in the southeastern part of the city, experienced particularly heavy rainfall, with hourly totals reaching close to 60 millimeters.

In response to the severe weather, the Taipei City Disaster Response Center was upgraded to an enhanced Level 3 alert. Various city departments have established emergency response teams to address any immediate incidents or damage caused by the downpour.

Meteorological data indicates that the convective cloud system continues to affect the southeastern areas of Taipei. New cloud formations are developing and moving into the western part of Wenshan District. Forecasters predict that several districts, including Daan, Wenshan, Xinyi, Songshan, and Neihu, could experience maximum hourly rainfall rates of 60 to 70 millimeters within the next hour.

The city government is actively monitoring the situation and coordinating response efforts to mitigate the impact of the heavy rains and potential flooding.
